Fisherman's Sweaters are a collage of stitch patterns . Each stitch pattern has a story to tell. Patterns were never written down but passed down through the generations. In old days women did not knit, they spun the yarn and the men knit. Traditional color for Fisherman sweaters are ivory but who says we cannot break into color?

Below are some of my favorite stitch patterns separated so you can create your own combination or follow the  Fisherman's Entwined Lovers Mug Rug, Cloth or Backscrubber and Fisherman Collage Cloth & Back scrubber pattern below.

Fisherman's Collage Cloth & Back Scrubber

Supplies:
1 skein knitting worsted yarn
1 pair of size 7 (US ) single point needles
1 pair of size 6( US ) double point needles
1 cable needle
Tapestry needle or crochet hook

Pattern: 16 stitches

Abbreviations:
cr2l: cross 2 left ( sl2 stitches onto cn to front, p1,k2 from cn)
cr2r: cross 2 right ( sl1 stitch onto cn to back, k2,p1 from cn )
cn= cable needle
B= border

Cast on:
Back scrubber: 24 stitches
Small cloth: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX stitches see notes
Large cloth: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX stitches see notes


Knit 1" of border, moss stitch, then begin pattern.

Pattern:
Row 1: B4, k2,p4,k4,p4,k2,B4.
Row 2 and all even rows: B4, stitches are worked according to those of previous row, B4.
Row 3: B4,k1,p4,sl2 onto cn to back,k2,k2 from cn,p4,k2,B4.
Row 5: B4, cr2l,p2,cr2r,cr2l,p2,cr2r, B4.
Row 7: B4, p1,cr2l,cr2r,p2,cr2l,cr2r,p1,B4.
Row 9: B4, p2,sl2 onto cn to back,k2,k2 from cn,p4,sl2 onto cn to back,k2,k2 from cn,p2,B4.
Row 11: B4, p2,k4,p4,k4,p2,B4.
Row 13: B4, p2,sl2 onto cn to back,k2,k2 from cn,p4,sl2 onto cn to back,k2,k2 from cn,p2,B4.

Fisherman's Entwined Couples Mug Rug, Back Scrubber and Large Cloth

Supplies:
1 skein knitting worsted yarn
1 pair of size 7 (US ) single point needles
1 pair of size 6( US ) double point needles
1 cable needle
Tapestry needle or crochet hook

Pattern: 22 stitches

Abbreviations:
cr2l: cross 2 left ( sl2 stitches onto cn to front, p1,k2 from cn)
cr2r: cross 2 right ( sl1 stitch onto cn to back, k2,p1 from cn )
crossover: 4 stitches ( 2 sts onto cn to back, knit2,k2 from cn)
cn= cable needle
B= border

Cast on:
Back scrubber or Mug Rug: 26 stitches
Large cloth: 48 stitches


Knit 1" of border garter stitch, then begin pattern.

Pattern:
Row 1: B2, p3,k2,p4,k4,p4,k2,p3,B2.
Row 2 and all even rows: B2, stitches are worked according to those of previous row, B2.
Row 3: B2, p3,k2,p4,crossover,p4,k2,p3,B2.
Row 5: B2, p3,c2l,p2,c2r,c2l,p2,c2r,B2.
Row 7: B2, p4,c2l,c2r,p2,c2l,c2r,p4,B2.
Row 9: B2,p5,crossover,p4,crossover,p5,B2.
Row 11: B2,p5,k4,p4,k4,p5,B4.
Row 13: B2,p5,crossover,p4,crossover,p5,B2.
Row 15: B2,p4,c2r,c2l,p2,c2r,c2l,p4,B2.
Row 17: B2,p3,c2r,p2,c2l,c2r,p2,c2l,p3,B2.
Row 19: B2, p3,k2,p4,crossover,p4,k2,p3,B2.
Row 20: B2, stitches are worked according to those of previous row, B2.

Repeat rows 1-20 for pattern.
For cloth repeat pattern till a border distance away from desired length. Start knitting border on after a pattern row. Knit border, bind off and weave in the ends.

Mug Rug: Knit one repeat, then knit border after row 19.

Back scrubber:
Follow the pattern above. Knit till scrubber measures 16-18 inches, knit border. Bind off all but three stitches. Transfer stitches to double point needles and knit I-cord for 9 inches, bind off and sew to the other end of the cloth for handle.
Make second handle:
Cast on 3 stitches and knit I-cord for 9 inches, bind off and attach to bottom of the scrubber.

Pattern: 12 stitches & 8 rows

1st row (right side): P2, S3b, K1, then P1, K1, P1 all from cable needle, S1f, K1, P1, K1, then Kss, P2.
2nd, 4th and 6th rows: K2, (P1, K1) 3 times, P2, K2.
3rd and 5th rows: P2, (K1, P1) 3 times, K2, P2.
7th row: P2, K1, P1, K3, P1, K2, P2.
8th row: K2, P1, K1, P3, K1, P2, K2.

Note:
KSS= Knit the slipped stitches.



Rope inside Diamonds:

Pattern is 18 stitches by 28 rows.

1st row (wrong side): K7, P4, K7.
